Fast Facts about Eric David :
Eric David believes a boater’s safety starts long before they ever leave the dock, it starts with the quality of the course that got them there. As Vice President and Director of Operations at Drive a Boat USA, he leads a NASBLA-accredited boating safety school built to meet the exact requirements of the states it serves: California, Florida, and New York. Every course on the platform is designed so boaters can complete their state-required training online, at their own pace, without cutting corners on what the law demands.
Boating laws don’t look the same in Sacramento, Tallahassee, and Albany, and Eric David’s job is to make sure Drive a Boat USA’s courses never miss that distinction. His day-to-day work centers on three things:
Eric David’s background blends two disciplines that don’t always overlap: business leadership and boating safety education.
Drive a Boat USA’s credibility in the industry is backed by real partnerships, not just credentials on paper. Eric David has built a working relationship with Mercury Marine, one of the most established names in recreational boat engines, reinforcing the practical, on-the-water relevance of the courses his team builds.
Eric David didn’t set out to build a boating safety company. That path opened up after something that happened to him personally.
While on vacation in 2019, he noticed a swimmer caught in rough water close to shore, clearly in trouble. Without stopping to think it through, he swam out to help and the current pulled him in too. What followed was 45 minutes of fighting to stay above the waves before help arrived. He had no training at all in water emergencies at the time, and it showed.
The following year, he was offered a chance to help build a boating safety course. He didn’t hesitate. One of the chapters he insisted on including: what to do when something goes wrong on the water. That near-miss still shapes how seriously he takes every course Drive a Boat USA puts online.
For Eric, every completed course represents a real commitment, not just to meeting a state’s requirements, but to the boater who’s going to be out on the water because of it. Three things guide how he builds that: courses that hold up to regulatory scrutiny, training that’s genuinely usable by real people, and a refusal to let convenience win out over actually teaching someone what they need to know.
